If you didn't go, now you know...
Monthly luncheon program recaps!

November Luncheon: Revive Wacker Drive Construction Program Update
What Was Presented:
There were many factors that led to the decision to rehabilitate Wacker Drive from Randolph to Van Buren. Among those are prevalent safety issues, poor geometrics, inadequate lighting, conflicting traffic movements and the infrastructure itself had begun to deteriorate. In order to complete this challenging project many governmental agencies and firms were required to coordinate efforts to adhere to the strict construction schedule. This is the first large scale construction project since it was originally built in 1902.

Beneficial Take-Aways:

  • 3.5 acres of new green space will be added along the expressway in the West Loop of Chicago.
  •

  • This project is estimated to have a 75 year design life, but will require future maintenance.
  •

  • Wacker Drive will now have a consistent look, as the city has taken over the responsibility for the design and maintenance of the streetscape as opposed to building management.
  •

  • Future projects revealed such as Lake Shore Drive construction from Hollywood to Grand.
